FASST Teacher Training and Initiatives

FASST Teacher
Training Mission

Our mission is to train teachers who have a strong commitment to teaching and student outcomes.  Our program uses a four-semester course sequence to teach components of teaching that have been identified in research and practice as best predictors of student learning.

Contents include:
(a) vocabulary of the science,
(b) demonstration of mastery of teaching skills in the classroom*,
(c) mastery of the scientific algorithm for solving learning, teaching, and curriculum problems interfering with individual children’s,
(d) using the science to accelerate student learning.

We offer a course sequence that is aligned to the CABAS® Teacher rank competencies. Mastery of course components, including competencies associated with teaching, may fulfill CABAS® Teacher rank requirements.  This specific sequence is designed to include components of teaching children that have been identified in research and practice as best predictors of student learning. Direct teaching or work with children is a must, as much of the course content and assignments will be related to teaching practices.

Strategic Science of Teaching (CABAS® Teacher 1 Competencies)

CABAS® Teacher 1 Competencies provides teachers with expertise in using the science of behavior to teach students with and without learning difficulties. Some components include how to measure student instruction, make instructional decisions based on students’ data, implement verbal behavior development protocols and research-based tactics. This first Teacher Rank provides the foundations for effective teaching using the science of behavior.

Strategic Science of Teaching (CABAS® Teacher 2 Competencies)

CABAS® Teacher 2 Competencies builds on the CABAS® Teacher 1 rank with more advanced competencies and more independent decision analysis in instruction.

Course Requirements
