Rockland BOCES

Rockland BOCES

We currently operate 7 district-based elementary (K-4th grade) CABAS® classrooms under the administration of Rockland County (NY) BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services). All district-based classes are housed within our local component school districts and have a student-to-teacher-to-teaching assistant ratio of 8:1:2. Students’ strengths and needs in academic, social, and self-management repertoires are taken into consideration when placing students in these settings.

Science of Teaching FASST CABAS workshop for educators and researchers.

In our district-based CABAS® program we strive to place students in the least restrictive educational environment and to establish the necessary academic, communication, and self-management repertoires necessary to move to settings where they can be more independent.

Within selected public school settings, our students are afforded opportunities to integrate with their typically developing peers. When appropriate, and as per their IEPs, our students are mainstreamed with regular-education students in both academic and non-academic subjects.

All of our classroom teachers are certified in New York State to teach in the area of elementary special education.  In addition, all of our teachers and teaching staff work toward CABAS® Teaching Assistant and Teacher ranks, thereby continually increasing their expertise in a strategic science of teaching. On-site mentoring and supervision is provided 5 days per week by CABAS® certified behavior analysts and consultants.

The district-based classrooms within Rockland BOCES are currently located in the following schools:

  • West Haverstraw Elementary School, West Haverstraw, NY 1 classroom, Grades K-2
  • Link Elementary School, New City, NY 3 classrooms, Grades K-4
  • Tappan Zee Elementary School, Piermont, NY, 3 classrooms, Grades K-4
